Welcome to the website of the Chinese Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Liberia!
As the oldest Republic in the African Continent, Liberia has been in existence for over 160 years. Once a "shining pearl" of the West African region, Liberia is bestowed with rich natural resources, such as iron ore, gold, diamond, rubber, timber, oil palm. In 1967, its output of iron ore ranked the first in Africa and the second in the world. Enjoying a favorable geographic location as it faces the Atlantic Ocean and with a number of ports naturally suitable for berthing, Liberia once played a key role in marine traffic in Africa. However, it is regrettable that 14-years war has waned its luster. Fortunately, the long-expected peace has finally befallen and made its way forward irreversibly. With the help of the international community, the Liberian Government and its people have set out to accomplish the formidable task of homestead reconstruction.
The friendship between the Chinese and the Liberian people endures in spite of several setbacks due to the Taiwan question. Nevertheless, since the resumption of the diplomatic tie between our two counties in October 11 2003 and thanks to the well-received policy of China toward Liberia, friendly bilateral cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy and trade develops rapidly, personnel exchange becomes more frequent and bilateral relations continue to be strengthened. I'm fully confident of developing a long-term, stable and friendly cooperative relation between China and Liberia as well as between our two peoples.
China and Liberia are highly complementary in many areas, which generates a broad prospect for bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The Liberian Government commits itself to an open market economy and the US dollar, which enjoys the same status of the Liberian dollar, the legal tender of Liberia, can flow freely in this country. The Liberian Government and its people are expecting to conduct mutually beneficial cooperation with Chinese enterprises in such spheres as resources exploration, rice production, stock raising, fishery, infrastructure, etc. The Chinese Government, in response, encourages and supports its enterprises to do so. Since January 1, 2005, the Chinese Government has granted the treatment of customs exemption to certain commodities originated from Liberian and exported to China. Our Embassy will make endeavor to provide timely and reliable information and all possible services to Chinese enterprises seeking economic and trade cooperation in Liberia, and do our utmost to protect the legitimate rights and interests of all Chinese citizens, enterprises and legal persons in this country.
May this website serving as a bridge, through which both Liberia and China can be better known, the friendship between the two peoples be enhanced and the China-Liberia friendly cooperative relations be continuously developed.
