Xi Jinping Exchange Congratulatory Messages with Tunisian President Kais Saied on the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Tunisia

On January 10, 2024, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Tunisian President Kais Saied on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Tunisia, with a profound traditional friendship, have witnessed sound and steady growth of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations 60 years ago, no matter how the international landscape has evolved. Over the past years, the political mutual trust between the two sides has been cemented, and exchanges and cooperation have made substantial progress in various fields. Xi Jinping said, during the China-Arab States Summit in December 2022, he met with President Saied and they reached important common understandings, charting the course for the development of China-Tunisia relations. Xi Jinping said he highly values the development of China-Tunisia relations and is ready to work with President Saied to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as a new starting point, renew the traditional friendship of the two countries and push for greater progress in bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

Saied said that over the past years, Tunisia and China, with a long-lasting friendship as well as fruitful cooperation, have upheld common values, stayed committed to cementing and expanding bilateral relations, and conducted increasingly close cooperation on international and regional affairs. Tunisia is ready to work with the Chinese side to foster a new type of partnership covering various areas and featuring a broad prospect, so as to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level.

On the same day, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council exchanged congratulatory messages with Tunisian Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani. Li Qiang said, he would like to work with Prime Minister Hachani to follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and enrich the China-Tunisia friendly cooperative relations.

Hachani said that Tunisia looks forward to continuing to work with China to enhance bilateral friendship, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and serve the common interests of the two peoples.
