Xi Jinping Meets with Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin

On the afternoon of November 22, 2023, President Xi Jinping met with Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that as each other’s largest neighbor and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia share extensive common interests. This year, he and President Vladimir Putin had in-depth face-to-face exchanges twice and reached a lot of new common understandings on deepening the comprehensive strategic coordination and practical cooperation in various fields between China and Russia. Noting that next year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic relations, Xi said China is ready to work with Russia to further deepen bilateral relations featuring enduring good-neighborliness and friendship, comprehensive strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation for win-win results, so as to inject new impetus into the development and revitalization of the two countries and contribute more stabilizing factors to world prosperity and stability.

Xi Jinping stressed that closer cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries has an important role to play in ensuring the steady and long-term development of bilateral relations. Xi expressed the hope that the State Duma of Russia and the National People's Congress of China will enhance exchanges on legislative experience and give full play to the role of special committees and friendship groups of the two legislatures, to provide better legal support for bilateral cooperation, ensure the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union are well synergized, and deepen communication and coordination on multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and the G20.

Vyacheslav Volodin said that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, Russia-China relations are now at their best in history. All parties in the State Duma of Russia have reached a high degree of consensus on supporting the development of friendly relations with China. Russia firmly pursues the one-China policy and firmly supports China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Russia is ready to strengthen inter-legislature and inter-party exchanges and cooperation with China, actively implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, and deepen friendship and mutual trust between the two peoples, so as to provide strong legal safeguards for sustained development of the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
