On October 3, 2020, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Singapore diplomatic relations.

Xi Jinping stressed in the message that over the past three decades, in the face of the ever-evolving international situation, China and Singapore have understood and supported each other, and pushed forward the bilateral ties by progressing with the times. The cooperation has gone far beyond the bilateral scope and set a fine example in the region and the whole world.

Xi Jinping noted that the world is now undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, and with the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping across the world, all countries are confronted with challenges to contain COVID-19 and recover the economy. He attaches great importance to China-Singapore relations. China stands ready to work with Singapore to push ahead the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, preserve multilateralism and free trade, and promote greater development of bilateral relations for regional and global stability and prosperity.

Halimah Yacob noted in her message that the relations between Singapore and China have flourished over the past 30 years, marked by substantive cooperation and close people-to-people ties. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have extended assistance to each other in economic recovery and bolstering unimpeded trade and stable supply chains and have opened up many new areas of cooperation. She said, I am confident that the bilateral relations between our two countries will be brought to an even higher level in the next 30 years.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang exchanged congratulatory messages with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Li Keqiang said in the message that taking the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations as a good opportunity, China is ready to work with Singaporean friends to advance with the times, explore new ground in cooperation, and further link up development strategy, so as to help each other and the region overcome challenges and embrace better development prospects.

Lee Hsien Loong said in the message that the two countries have forged a strong and mutually beneficial relationship over the years and maintained excellent cooperation in the regional and international fora. He looks forward to working with Chinese side to strengthen the multilateral infrastructure that binds the world today and to bring the bilateral relations to greater heights.
