The Chinese Embassy in Liberia Helds the Pre-departure Reception for the Winners of the Chinese Government Scholarship and Short Term Training Programs

On July 28th, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia held the Pre-departure Reception for the winners of the Chinese Government Scholarship and Short Term Training Programs. H.E. Mr. Fan Erwei, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy, Hon. Latim Dathong, Acting Minister of Education, Hon. Trokon A. Kpui, Minister of State without Portfolio, Mr. Filmore Wiagbe, President of the Liberian Association of Chinese Trained Scholars, Mr. Francis Pelenah, Journalist of LBS, Representatives of Confucius Institute of University of Liberia and all scholarship-winning students attended the Reception.

In his speech, Chargé d'Affaires Fan extended warm congratulations to the winners of the scholarship. Fan said, this year marks the 10th Anniversary of the principle of sincerity, delivering outcomes, affinity and good faith to African countries and the vision of promoting common good and shared interests initiated by President Xi Jinping, and under the guidance and planning of President Xi Jinping and President George Manneh Weah, China-Liberia cooperation has achieved fruitful results in such areas as economy and trade, health care, infrastructure construction, food security, and human resource development. Fan hoped that the scholarship-winning students will make the best use of the opportunity to study in China, work hard on the Chinese language and professional knowledge, gain in-depth understanding of the Chinese culture, experience the historic development and achievements China has made, serve Liberia’s development, and promote friendship between China and Liberia.

Acting minister Dathong delivered a speech, congratulating the scholarship-winning students on behalf of President Weah and the Ministry of Education of Liberia. He thanks China for providing valuable scholarship opportunities, and emphasized that talent and education are the key to Liberia's development and transformation. He expects students to contribute to Liberia's economic and social development after the completion of their studies in China.

Minister Kpui, Mr. Wiagbe, Mr. Pelenah, and the representative of the scholarship-winning students delivered speeches one after another, thanking the Chinese government for providing selfless assistance to Liberia, recalling the good experience of studying and interviewing in China, and encouraging the scholarship-winning students to cherish the opportunity opportunity to study in China, strive to increase their knowledge and talents, and strive to open a new chapter in their life and career.

Chargé d'Affaires Fan, Acting Minister Dathong, and Minister Kpui respectively issued admission letters to the scholarship-winning students. Teachers and students of the Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia were invited to perform Chinese martial arts and Chinese singing and dancing performances at the reception. The wonderful performances won rounds of applause from the guests.
