BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese senior leader Zhou Yongkang called for greater efforts for improving the quality of the country's law enforcement.

In his article published Wednesday on the "Qiu Shi" (Seeking Truth) magazine, Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said the country should build a just, highly-efficient and authoritative judiciary system.

Law enforcement departments should be aware of the challenges and tasks in their work and work diligently to improve their service for the people, said Zhou, who is also secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the CPC Central Committee.

Law enforcement departments should promptly address problems and contradictions arising from matters closely related to the life of the people, he added.

In the article, he called for holding high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory.

He also urged study and implementation of the guiding principles of the 17th CPC National Congress held in October and efforts to blaze new path for the country's political and legislative affairs.

The Party's leadership over political and legislative work should be further improved and strengthened, he stressed.

"Qiu Shi" Magazine is the official publication of the CPC Central Committee.
