China Promises to Combat Malaria In Liberia

 

Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao has disclosed plans by his country to shortly send a team of medical doctors to Liberia who are experts in malaria control.

 

He said, when the team arrives in the country, they will help train Liberian medical practitioners on the management and control of malaria case in the country.

 

The Chinese envoy made the disclosure Wednesday when he visited the offices of the Heritage on Gurley Street, Monrovia.

 

He further disclosed that China has a medical team of nine medical doctors presently serving at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Sinkor.

 

He said the Chinese Government recently built a dormitory for them to help solve their nursing need while serving in Liberia.

 

"We will continue to send medical doctors to Liberia to help solve the health needs of the Liberian people," he added.

 

He also said his government has set up a malaria control center at the JFK which is the largest referral hospital in the country.

 

Speaking further, Ambassador Yuxiao said China was faced with similar malaria some years back, but they fought it and today malaria has completely been wiped out of China.

 

He said, "Young people in China do not know what is called malaria now".

 

"If we can manage to wipe out malaria in a country of 1.3billion people, then what about Liberia that has so small a population," he stated.

 

The Chinese envoy disclosed that for the fight against malaria, China has developed an effective anti-malaria vaccine which is an effective medicine against malaria.

 

Ambassador Yuxiao also disclosed that the Chinese government was working out modalities for the renovation or reconstruction of one of the largest hospital in the country situated n Tappita, Nimba County.

 

He said this hospital was considered to be one of the biggest in West Africa.

 

He said his country was undertaking all these initiatives because of the confidence his government has in the stability of Liberia.

 

"The visit of my president to Liberia last year is a manifestation of that confidence," he pointed.

 

He also said the building of a new Chinese embassy complex in the country is a clear indication that Liberia is safe and ready of investment ventures.

 

"We will be engaged in all aspects of life in Liberia, including health, agriculture, education and capacity building," he added.
