--Promises Training For Liberian Media

Chinese Ambassador accredited near this capital, Zhou Yuxiao, Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the offices of the authoritative Heritage Newspaper, situated on Gurley Street in Monrovia.

 

During the visit, Ambassador Yuxiao informed the staff and management of the Heritage that the purpose of his visit was to establish friendly ties with the institution. He praised the Heritage for the high standard it has employed over the years, saying "I am a devoted reader of the paper."

 

He said his predecessor mentioned of good relations with the Heritage and he therefore sees the need to follow his good example by recognizing the tremendous work of the paper, noting "as new Chinese Ambassador, I thought to do likewise."

 

The Chinese Ambassador thanked the paper for the coverage given the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, adding "I am looking for good relationship for the future of Liberia and China."

 

Ambassador Yuxiao said since his arrival in Liberia, he had been visiting government ministries and agencies, including private institutions in the country. He said it was about time to visit media institutions; as such visits will afford him the opportunity to know much about Liberia and the Liberia people. "The media is a very good and important facet of society. It is through the media the people get the necessary information that helps to transform their lives," he stressed.

 

According to him, the media is the bridge between the people and their leaders and the outside world.

 

The Chinese envoy, who underscored the importance of the media in rebuilding process of the country, promised to do all within his reach to explore avenues for the training of Liberian media practitioners in China.

 

Earlier, the Publisher and Managing Editor of the Heritage Newspaper, Mohammed M. Kanneh welcome Ambassador Yuxiao to the offices of the paper, describing the Chinese envoy's visit as timely and in the right direction.

 

Mr. kanneh, who was in a joyful mood during the visit of the ambassador, recounted the good working relationship friendly ties subsisting between the Chinese Embassy and Heritage.
