Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao is calling on Liberians, both within and out, to be patient with the Ellen-led government, stressing that it takes time for a government to recover from its economy strength, especially a country such as Liberia that has suffered a catastrophe civil war. He said the government needs to be given the chance in order to put its house in order to help meet the socio-economic and other needs of its citizens. He made the statement Wednesday when he visited The Analyst Newspaper in Monrovia. Amb. Zhou who praised the work of Liberia media institutions in the country, disclosed that he is currently implementing what his predecessor has left on the table for the Liberian people and their government. The Chinese envoy said the ties between his government and the government of Liberia will continue, adding that all projects currently undertaken by his government in Liberia will be completed and more are yet to come. He said Liberia has not been left along in her reconstruction process, and added: "China is standing by and with her in her undertakings." Amb. Zhou told The Analyst that he has confidence in Liberia and promised to encourage more Chinese to invest in Liberia. He assured Liberians that in few years to come things will be better and the country's economy will improve. "Things will be better; you know UN is here; World Bank is helping; NGOs are helping; U.S is helping. So, I have confidence in your country," Amb. Zhou said. Speaking further, the Chinese envoy praised Liberia for having a vast and large land with small population, expressing the hope that Liberia will export goods to China. "I am confident that one day Liberia will be able to help China because our land is diminishing," he noted. He noted that China's help to Liberia is to help itself, but added it would be good both countries if Liberia exports goods or help China. "If we can help you improve your agriculture, someday you can export food to China, so it is good for China not only good for you", he said. Source: The Analyst Newspaper |
