Wang Yi Meets with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

On September 16, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Dushanbe.

Wang Yi said that after the new Iranian administration was established, China-Iran relations have maintained positive momentum as frequent communication took place at all levels, demonstrating the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership at a high level. China firmly supports Iran in opposing hegemony, safeguarding its sovereignty, dignity, and legitimate interests. China is ready to collaborate with Iran for the implementation of the comprehensive cooperation plan, and advance the cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative, energy and resources. China will continue to assist Iran in fighting COVID-19. China supports Iran in becoming a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and is willing to enhance coordination and cooperation with the country in regional and international affairs, and jointly steer the negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Issue in the right direction for an early consensus. The two sides will also jointly propel Afghanistan to build an inclusive political structure, live with its neighbors in harmony, and take concrete actions to combat all forms of terrorism.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran-China relations are of strategic importance and are built on a solid foundation. The new Iranian administration is ready to work with China to further implement the Iran-China comprehensive cooperation plan, accelerate bilateral cooperation in transportation, energy, culture, technology and tourism. Iran thanks China for its enormous assistance in the country's fight against the pandemic and wishes to reinforce vaccine cooperation with China. The new Iranian administration attaches importance to its neighbors and Asia. It appreciates China for supporting it in joining the SCO as a full member and is ready to enhance communication and coordination with China on the Iranian nuclear issue and the Afghan issue.
