On December 8, 2021, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Olaf Scholz on his election as German Chancellor.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Germany are all-round strategic partners. Over the years, the two sides have been adhering to mutual respect, seeking common ground while shelving differences and pursuing win-win cooperation, and have accomplished many great things that benefit our two countries and two peoples, as well as the world. Facing major changes and a pandemic both unseen in a century, China and Germany have strengthened communication and cooperation, jointly supported the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and promoted economic recovery, demonstrating our sense of responsibility as major countries. I attach great importance to the development of China-Germany relations and am willing to work with you to take the opportunity of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year to consolidate and deepen political mutual trust, expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and promote China-Germany relations to a new level.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory message to Scholz on his election as German Chancellor, saying China-Germany relations have become one of the most important bilateral relations in the world. I look forward to establishing and maintaining good working contacts with you, further consolidating political mutual trust, enriching the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership, promoting friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Germany, and achieving new results.
