2021-11-26 22:10

On the afternoon of November 26, 2021, Premier Li Keqiang met with President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid, who was visiting China, at the Great Hall of the People via video link.

Li Keqiang congratulates Abdulla Shahid on his election as President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Heā€‚said, the United Nations is the broadest and the most representative and authoritative inter-governmental international organization, the banner of multilateralism, and the most important platform for reform and development of the global governance system. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of China's lawful seat in the United Nations. At the conference marking the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of China in the United Nations, President Xi Jinping proposed that we should resolutely uphold the authority and status of the United Nations. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and the largest developing country, China would, as always, adhere to multilateralism, safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order underpinned by international law, and the basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and work with the international community to maintain world peace and promote development and prosperity.

Li Keqiang pointed out that, China supports the United Nations General Assembly in achieving more practical results in promoting the fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, promoting development, and responding to climate change. China has clearly proposed that vaccines should be a global public good, and China has provided anti-pandemic support for countries in need, especially the developing countries, within its capacity. China stands ready to strengthen coordination with the United Nations to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, strengthen South-South cooperation, and promote more balanced, coordinated and inclusive global development. We hope that the United Nations General Assembly will adhere to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities in dealing with climate change issues, attach great importance to the concerns and demands of developing countries, and increase technical, financial and capacity support.

Shahid appreciates that over five decades since the restoration of the lawful seat of China in the United Nations, China has always abided by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, upheld multilateralism, and supported the role of the United Nations. Shahid expressed his thanks for China's actions in providing vaccines to the world and actively supporting the UN cooperation projects. He supports the Global Development Initiative proposed by China and hopes to strengthen cooperation with China to promote the recovery of the global economy and achieve the goal of sustainable development.

He Lifeng attended the event.
