Xi Jinping Speaks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the Phone

On October 27, 2021, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Xi Jinping once again congratulated Mirziyoyev on his re-election as Uzbek president.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since the establishment of the China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic partnership five years ago, bilateral cooperation in various fields has reached an unprecedentedly high level. The two sides have been learning from each other in the course of reform and opening-up as well as development and revitalization, and helping each other in the joint battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. China attaches great importance to developing China-Uzbekistan relations, and supports Uzbekistan in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions. Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Uzbekistan. Bilateral relations will stand at a new starting point. The two sides should seize the opportunities, build on past achievements, and strive for more tangible outcomes of cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.

Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides should strengthen policy alignment and promote all-round cooperation. The two countries need to expand the scale of trade and investment and tap into the cooperation potential in such areas as digital finance and cross-border e-commerce. China stands ready to import more green and high-quality agricultural products from Uzbekistan. The two sides also need to lift the level of connectivity, support enterprises of the two countries in continuing with oil and gas cooperation, boost poverty reduction cooperation, and enrich the connotation of cultural and people-to-people cooperation. He welcomes Uzbek Olympic athletes to China for the Beijing Olympic Winter Games. China is ready to deepen cooperation with Uzbekistan in the pandemic response, and help the country build a regional vaccine production center and enhance capacity-building in the health care system. The two countries also need to step up cooperation in such areas as law enforcement and security, so as to safeguard security and stability in the two countries as well as the region. China supports Uzbekistan in playing its role as the rotating chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and stands ready to work with other members to carry forward the Shanghai Spirit, lift the level of cooperation in all areas, and enable the organization to achieve greater development at a new starting point.

Mirziyoyev said, I appreciate President Xi Jinping for sending a congratulatory message immediately upon my re-election as Uzbek president and expressing confidence in Uzbekistan's national development, which is a great encouragement to me and all Uzbek people. On the centenary of the Communist Party of China, China has made great achievements in economic development and poverty eradication that have been recognized by the world. I highly appreciate and firmly support the people-centered philosophy and Global Development Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping, and am willing to learn from China's experience in state governance. Mirziyoyev also expressed gratitude for China's selfless assistance for Uzbekistan's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Uzbekistan firmly supports China's position on issues concerning China's core interests and opposes the politicization of the origins tracing of the novel coronavirus. I fully agree with President Xi Jinping's views on developing Uzbekistan-China relations, and the Uzbek side is willing to work with China to strengthen practical cooperation in economy, trade, poverty reduction, connectivity and other areas, and deepen the Uzbekistan-China comprehensive strategic partnership. The Uzbek side will actively participate in the fourth China International Import Expo, fully supports China in hosting the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, and looks forward to cooperating with China on this great event. As the rotating chair of the SCO, Uzbekistan will work closely with China to push for a new development of the SCO.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Afghan issue.
