On September 12, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was on an official visit to Cambodia, held talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

Wang Yi said that he and Prak Sokhonn have met face to face for three times in less than one year despite the COVID-19 pandemic, fully demonstrating the extraordinary nature of bilateral relations and the significance of bilateral cooperation. The China-Cambodia friendship, forged and nurtured by former leaderships of both countries, has weathered tests and difficulties and has become rock solid in the face of challenges in the international arena. Amid the once-in-a-century pandemic, China and Cambodia have stood together and maintained mutual support to build an unbreakable defense line against the virus. Facing profound global changes unseen in a century, the two countries have been jointly fighting power politics and bullying, safeguarding international fairness and justice, and the common interests of all developing countries. As good friends with high mutual trust and a community with a shared future, China will continue to firmly support Cambodia in safeguarding state sovereignty and national dignity, combating COVID-19 and developing economy, and playing a more active and important role in regional and international arenas.

Noting that this year marks the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Cambodian People's Party, Wang Yi said that General Secretary Xi Jinping and President Samdech Techo Hun Sen exchanged congratulatory letters to provide strategic guidance for the development of China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation. China stands ready to work with Cambodia to implement the consensus reached by leaders of both countries, and coordinate bilateral cooperation in all areas with the action plan of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future as the main line, boosting the high-level development of China-Cambodia relations.

Wang Yi said that China will continue to help Cambodia fight the COVID-19 outbreak by providing vaccines and other materials, and increase imports of Cambodian competitive agricultural products, helping push forward Cambodia's industrialization and its economic transformation and upgrading. He hopes that the China-Cambodia free trade agreement will take effect and benefit at an early date, offering Cambodia the driving force for economic recovery. Both sides may speed up the construction of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, which would play a pivotal role in building an industrial investment group for the region. China is ready to work with Cambodia to dovetail the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor with the Lancang-Mekong Economic Development Belt, elevating the China-ASEAN relations to a new stage.

Prak Sokhonn congratulated the CPC on its 100th anniversary and thanked the Chinese government for its considerate care of King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk during their medical check-up in China. He appreciated China's long-term support for Cambodia to follow a development path suited to its national conditions and China's assistance to Cambodia in fighting the COVID-19 outbreak and developing its economy. The Cambodian side highly values China's success in controlling the pandemic and its leading role in international anti-pandemic cooperation. Cambodia is committed to working with China to build a community with a shared future for both countries, hoping that the two sides will strengthen the iron-clad friendship and all-round cooperation. Cambodia will strictly abide by the one-China principle and stand firmly with China on issues of China's internal affairs, such as those involving Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang. He hopes that the two sides will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, investment, law enforcement, culture, defense and security, and at the local level, and jointly build the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone into a win-win model within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Cambodia supports scientific approaches to trace the COVID-19 origins, and opposes politicizing the origins tracing of the virus. Cambodia also firmly supports the international order based on international law, the multilateralism and the development of ASEAN-China relations.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern.
