On September 11, 2021 local time, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong met with visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Hanoi, who was on an official visit to Vietnam.

Nguyen Phu Trong asked Wang Yi to convey his cordial greetings to General Secretary Xi Jinping, saying that both Vietnam and China adhere to the socialist path and adhere to Marxist-Leninist ideals and beliefs. The two sides have enjoyed comradely and brotherly friendship and established a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Facing a complex and changing international situation, the two sides should join hands to overcome difficulties so as to realize their respective goals of socialist construction. No one can undermine or change the unity and cooperation between the two countries. The two sides should push forward diversified exchanges and cooperation between the two parties, governments and localities in a flexible manner, educate the younger generations to inherit and carry forward the traditional sincerity between the two parties and the two countries, communicate and exchange in a friendly and brotherly manner, and strive for the enduring, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

Wang Yi conveyed General Secretary Xi Jinping's sincere greetings and best wishes to Nguyen Phu Trong and congratulated the successful convening of the 13th National Congress of the CPV. Wang Yi said that General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong have established solid mutual trust and deep friendship. The strategic leadership of the top leaders of the two parties and two countries is the fundamental political guarantee for the long-term, healthy and stable development of China-Vietnam relations. China appreciates that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong published a signed article after the end of the 13th National Congress of the CPV, emphasizing the inevitability and correctness of Vietnam's adherence to the socialist path, which is of great significance for Vietnam to overcome various risks and challenges. The China-Vietnam relations are of particular strategic importance. Facing the complex and changing international situation, the two sides should deepen mutual political trust, strengthen unity and cooperation, and consolidate their political and system security. As long as both sides stick to our common ideals and beliefs, as well as the orientation to developing socialism, we can overcome any difficulties and solve any problems we may face. China firmly supports the successful administration of the new leadership of the Vietnamese party and government, firmly supports the Vietnamese people in moving forward to achieving the "two centenary goals" under the leadership of the CPV, and firmly supports the Vietnamese side in fighting and defeating the COVID-19 pandemic. We should strengthen cooperation in all areas and continuously inject new connotations into China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

During his visit to Vietnam, Wang Yi also met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, co-chaired the 13th Meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh, and held talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.
