On September 3, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov respectively sent messages to the Dongning Fortress Museum to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

In his written message, Wang Yi said, this year marks the 76th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. 76 years ago, China and Russia made tremendous sacrifices for and indelible contributions to the great victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. The two heads of state had repeatedly stressed the importance of China-Russia coordination in safeguarding historical truth. The people of China and Russia as well as the peace-loving people around the world will not allow erroneous regressive behaviors.

Wang Yi said, amid the overlapping impact of major changes and a global pandemic unseen in a century, the destiny of the people around the world is once again tied closely. We will stand with the international community, including Russia, to uphold the correct view on World War II (WWII), always remember the great contributions of the people in all countries to safeguarding national independence and freedom, and national sovereignty and dignity, and firmly safeguard the victorious outcomes of WWII and international fairness and justice; we will continue to uphold the present international order, assume its missions and responsibilities as a member of the international community, and jointly defend the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law; we will continue to be a true practitioner of multilateralism, push forward the reform of the unfair and unreasonable aspects of the current global governance system, actively improve and develop multilateral mechanisms, and unswervingly build a community with a shared future for mankind.

In his video remarks, Lavrov said, during the years of arduous wars, the people of the Soviet Union and China, in order to defend world peace and progress and maintain human dignity and freedom, stood shoulder to shoulder and helped each other in the fight against fascism and militarism, made tremendous sacrifices, and ultimately defeated the enemies, laying a solid foundation for the growth of bilateral friendly relations. The people of the two countries will always remember the heroes who laid down their lives in the wars, and Russia thanks the Chinese government for the careful maintenance of the memorial facilities for Soviet martyrs in China. Russia and China resolutely condemn behaviors that distort historical facts and results of WWII, beautify the Nazis, militarism and their allies, and smear victorious nations. The long-standing friendship and mutual support between the two countries will promote the rapid development of bilateral ties and safeguard world peace and security.

The Dongning Fortress saw the last battle of WWII, and was an important witness to how the Chinese and Russian people fought shoulder-to-shoulder. To commemorate the 76th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as decided by China and Russia, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Government of Heilongjiang Province and Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Harbin held online and offline commemorative activities at the Dongning Fortress Museum in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province on September 3.
