China's top legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday called for China and Liberia to enrich their relationship, suggesting the two make efforts to push ties to a higher level.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Liberian Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

China-Liberian trade hit $1.1 billion in 2008, Chinese custom figures show.

Boakai was invited by Vice-President Xi Jinping.
